SEHBAC: An Employer Case Study
We’ve been exemplified as a case study by the National Apprenticeships Service, a UK organisation formed to encourage the growth of apprenticeships in the UK.
Here’s what they have to say about us:
SEHBAC Commercial, based in Ipswich has been
manufacturing timber, PCV-u and aluminium
doors and windows since 1971. The high-tech
Ipswich facility produces more than 500 units
a week, destined for use in commercial properties,
schools and hospitals across the country and
for households in East Anglia and the South East.
In 2009 SEHBAC adopted the Apprenticeship
scheme and has since recruited six apprentices
working in different areas of the business.”
Taking a structured approach to training and
ensuring staff are multi-skilled plays a pivotal
role in SEHBAC Commercial’s success, supporting
a company culture based around quality
standards and market focus. Keeping up with
best practice and implementing the ISO 9001
Quality Management System and Kitemarks
means that company procedures need to be
exhaustively documented and audited.
A highly skilled workforce is a necessity in this
environment.
Each apprentice is mentored by an in-house
expert while training and managed learning is
provided by external assessors. The company
aims to retain all the apprentices when they
have completed their 15-month course.
