How our single-storey extension changed the way we live – Mr & Mrs Tilley

The Tilley family have completely changed the way they live thanks to a single-storey extension constructed by lifestyle company SEH BAC.

The well-respected firm is part of One Group Construction, which has been in the construction business for over 45 years.

SEH BAC, which also sells windows, doors and conservatories, took just three weeks to install the Tilley’s three metre by four metre rear extension attached to their north-facing kitchen. Now the family spend most of their time in there.

Prior to the work, Sally, and partner Neil only had one reception room for them and their two daughters, aged 24 and 16. The kitchen wasn’t big enough for anyone but the cook to linger in, so when it came to redesigning it they decided to push the boat out.

They ripped out the back door leading to the garden and called in the experts to produce a room full of light.

They decided to go for SEH BAC’s LivinROOF – a unique roof system that means the firm can install a solid roof with large window skylights to let in the natural light without the glare. It is also five times more energy efficient than a traditional glass roof.

The Tilleys chose to have two large glass panels installed in their solid roof and sited them nearest the kitchen, bathing it with extra light.

Their aim was that the in building their extension it should become a truly sociable part of their house – and that is exactly the end result.

Sally said: “We all love it. You feel so relaxed when you walk in there and guests are always complimenting us on its good looks. It has given the interior of our house a real wow factor!

“It is a joy to come home from work, sink into the sofa there whilst holding a cup of coffee in my hand and gaze out of the double glass doors to the garden. My youngest daughter, who has the smallest bedroom in the house, uses this room all the time.”
