      What is a Livinroof?

Livinroof is an innovative solid conservatory roof system from Ultraframe that combines highly insulated solid panels with areas of high-performance glazing.

Unlike a traditional fully glazed roof or completely solid tiled roof, Livinroof gives you the flexibility to position glass within the roof design. This means you can introduce natural light exactly where you want it while benefiting from the insulation, privacy and more substantial feel of a solid roof.

Inside, the roof creates a vaulted, plastered ceiling for a more room-like appearance, with an insulated internal pelmet that can accommodate features such as downlights and speakers.

Livinroof is suitable for new conservatories and extensions as well as replacing an existing conservatory roof, making it an excellent choice if you want to transform an older conservatory into a space you can enjoy throughout the year.

      Why choose a Livinroof?

Livinroof combines the comfort and insulation of a solid roof with the flexibility to retain natural light, helping turn your conservatory into a room you can enjoy throughout the year.

      Excellent thermal performance

Highly insulated solid panels and thermally isolated components help reduce heat loss through the roof, with Livinroof achieving U-values as low as 0.12 W/m²K depending on specification.

      Year-round comfort

Improved roof insulation helps create a more consistent and comfortable environment through the changing seasons, particularly when replacing an older glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof.

      Keep the natural light

Going solid doesn't mean going dark. Glazed panels can be incorporated into the Livinroof and positioned to bring natural daylight into the areas of your room where you want it most.

      Designed around your home

As well as improving the performance of your conservatory, Livinroof gives you considerable flexibility over how your new space looks and feels.

      A room-like interior

A vaulted, plastered ceiling creates a more substantial, extension-like appearance inside, while the internal pelmet provides the perfect place to incorporate features such as downlights and speakers.

      Flexible roof designs

Livinroof is highly configurable and can accommodate a wide variety of conservatory shapes and roof pitches, allowing us to design the roof around your property rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

      Lightweight construction

At approximately 31kg/m², Livinroof has been designed as a lightweight roofing system, making it particularly well suited to replacing existing conservatory roofs, subject to a survey of the existing structure.

      An Ultraframe livinroof close-up
uPVC P-Shaped Conservatory with a LivinROOF

A solid conservatory roof without losing the light

One of the biggest concerns homeowners have when considering a solid conservatory roof is whether their room will become too dark.

With Livinroof, you don't have to choose between a fully glazed roof and a completely solid one.

Shaped glass panels can be incorporated into different areas of the roof, allowing us to introduce natural light where it will have the greatest impact. You might want glazing positioned above a dining table, towards the centre of the room or close to the adjoining house to help bring daylight further into your home.

The amount and position of glazing can be considered as part of the overall conservatory design, taking into account the orientation of your property, how you use the room and the balance you want between natural light, privacy and thermal performance.

Our range of modern, energy-efficient conservatory roof glass can also provide solar-control and self-cleaning properties, helping you get even more from the glazed areas of your Livinroof.

Transform an existing conservatory with a replacement solid roof

If your conservatory is too hot in summer, difficult to keep warm during winter or simply feels dated, you don't necessarily need to replace the entire structure.

In many cases, replacing an older glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof with an insulated Ultraframe Livinroof can completely change the character of the room.

The combination of insulated solid sections, strategically positioned glazing and a plastered internal ceiling creates a much more substantial, room-like environment while allowing you to retain the existing conservatory where it is suitable to do so.

Before recommending a replacement roof, we'll survey the existing conservatory to assess its condition and suitability for the proposed work.

For a typical replacement roof project, we aim to have the new Livinroof installed and watertight within around five working days. You'll also have a dedicated SEHBAC Project Manager overseeing your project and a schedule of works so you know what to expect throughout the installation.

High energy efficiency saves you money

How energy efficient is an Ultraframe Livinroof?

Livinroof has been designed as a highly insulated warm roof system, helping to create a conservatory or extension that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

The system combines insulated solid roof panels with thermally isolated components and an insulated internal pelmet to help reduce heat transfer through the roof.

Depending on the specification chosen, a Livinroof can achieve a U-value of 0.15 W/m²K or as low as 0.12 W/m²K. As a general rule, the lower the U-value, the better the building element is at reducing heat transfer.

For homeowners replacing an older conservatory roof, improving the roof insulation can make a significant difference to how the room feels and how easily its temperature can be managed.

And because Livinroof allows us to incorporate high-performance glazing where required, you can balance excellent insulation with the natural daylight you still want from a conservatory.

      Choose your solid roof panels

Your Livinroof can be specified with insulated U-tec solid panels as standard or upgraded to RAL7016 urban grey aluminium insulated panels for a more premium external finish.

Both form part of Livinroof's high-performance insulated roof construction and can be combined with strategically positioned glass panels.

The aluminium option provides a contemporary, architectural appearance that can work particularly well with modern conservatory designs and aluminium windows and doors.

Your SEHBAC designer can show you the available options and help you choose the combination of solid panels and energy-efficient glazing that best complements your home.

      LivinRoof
Large uPVC conservatory with a LivinROOFA tiled conservatory roof

Solid roof, tiled roof or glass roof – which should I choose?

There isn't one conservatory roof that's right for every home. The best choice depends on how you want your new room to look and feel and the importance you place on natural light, insulation and external appearance.

      Ultraframe Livinroof solid roof

A great choice if you want to combine excellent insulation with natural daylight. Solid insulated sections can be combined with strategically positioned glass, giving you greater control over where light enters the room.

Best for: homeowners looking for a balance between natural light, thermal performance and a contemporary, extension-like interior.

      Tiled conservatory roof

A lightweight tiled roof creates a more traditional solid-roof appearance and a highly insulated, room-like environment. It's particularly suited to homeowners who want their conservatory to look and feel more like a conventional extension.

Best for: maximum solid-roof appearance, privacy and a traditional tiled finish.

      Glass conservatory roof

A high-performance glass roof maximises overhead daylight and maintains views of the sky. Modern solar-control and energy-efficient glazing provides significantly better performance than the glazing found in many older conservatories.

Best for: homeowners who want to maximise natural light and retain the classic bright, open feeling of a conservatory.

Not sure which roof is right for your home? Visit one of our showrooms or speak to a SEHBAC designer and we'll take you through the advantages of each option.

      FAQs

      What is an Ultraframe Livinroof?

Ultraframe Livinroof is a lightweight, insulated solid conservatory roof that can combine solid roof panels with glazed sections. Unlike a completely solid tiled roof, glass panels can be positioned within the roof design to bring natural light into specific areas of the room.

Can I replace my existing conservatory roof with a solid roof?

In many cases, yes. Livinroof has been specifically designed for both new installations and replacement conservatory roof projects. Its lightweight construction makes it particularly suited to replacing older glass or polycarbonate roofs, although the existing conservatory must always be assessed to make sure it is suitable before work begins.

Will a solid roof make my conservatory warmer in winter?

A modern insulated solid roof can significantly improve the thermal performance of an older conservatory, particularly when replacing an ageing glass or polycarbonate roof. Livinroof uses insulated panels, thermally broken rafters and an insulated internal pelmet to help create a more comfortable year-round living space.

Will my conservatory be cooler in summer with a solid roof?

A solid insulated roof reduces the amount of direct solar heat entering through the roof compared with a fully glazed conservatory. Livinroof can also incorporate strategically positioned glazing, allowing you to retain natural daylight without having an entirely glazed roof.

What is the U-value of an Ultraframe Livinroof?

Ultraframe Livinroof as standard has a U-value of 0.15 W/m²K, but can achieve U-values as low as 0.12 W/m²K depending on the roof specification. A lower U-value indicates that less heat is transferred through the building element, helping the room retain heat more effectively and thus saving on your heating bills.

Will a solid conservatory roof make the room dark?

It doesn't have to. One of the main advantages of Livinroof is the ability to incorporate glazed panels into the solid roof. These can be positioned to direct daylight towards the areas where it is most useful, helping you balance natural light, privacy and thermal performance.

Can I choose where the glass goes in a Livinroof?

Yes. Livinroof is highly configurable and glazed panels can be incorporated into different areas of the roof. This allows the roof to be designed around the orientation of your home and where you want natural light within the room.

What glass can I have in an Ultraframe Livinroof?

The glazed sections of your Ultraframe Livinroof can be specified with our range of modern, energy-efficient conservatory roof glass, allowing you to balance natural light, solar control and thermal performance.

Options include high-performance Smartglass with solar-control coatings that help reduce excessive heat build-up in summer while retaining warmth during colder months. Self-cleaning technology is also available, using daylight and rainwater to help break down and wash away dirt, making those harder-to-reach roof panels easier to maintain.

We'll help you choose the most suitable glass specification and tint for your Livinroof based on the orientation of your conservatory, how much natural light you want and how you plan to use the room.

What's the difference between a solid roof and a tiled conservatory roof?

A Livinroof solid roof uses insulated solid panels and can incorporate areas of glazing, giving you considerable control over natural light. A tiled conservatory roof creates a more traditional roof appearance using lightweight tiles and is generally chosen when a predominantly solid, extension-like appearance is preferred.

Is a solid roof better than a glass conservatory roof?

Neither is automatically better; it depends on how you want to use the room. A glass roof maximises daylight and views of the sky, while an insulated solid roof provides greater privacy and thermal performance. Livinroof sits between the two by combining insulated solid sections with strategically positioned glazing.

Do I need Building Regulations approval to replace a conservatory roof with a solid roof?

Replacing a glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof with a solid roof will normally require Building Regulations approval. The existing conservatory will also need to be assessed to ensure it is suitable for the new roof.

SEHBAC can take the hassle out of the process. Our dedicated planning team can advise on the requirements for your project and, where Building Regulations approval is required, prepare the necessary drawings, complete and submit the application, and manage it on your behalf through our building control partner.

This means you don't need to navigate the Building Regulations process yourself – we'll help manage it from application through to approval.

Do I need planning permission for a solid conservatory roof?

Changing a conservatory roof does not automatically mean planning permission is required. Whether you need it will depend on your property, the work being carried out and any previous alterations or restrictions. Listed buildings and homes in conservation areas may also have additional requirements.

SEHBAC can advise whether planning permission is likely to be needed for your project. If an application is required, our dedicated planning team can take the hassle out of the process by preparing the necessary drawings, completing and submitting the application, and managing it with the local authority on your behalf – all without the need to appoint and pay for a separate architect in most cases.

Can Livinroof be fitted to a lean-to conservatory?

Yes. Livinroof can accommodate roof pitches from approximately 5° to 40.9°, making it particularly useful for low-pitched lean-to conservatories as well as more complex conservatory designs.

How heavy is an Ultraframe Livinroof?

Livinroof is a lightweight roofing system weighing approximately 31kg/m². This makes it particularly useful for replacement roof projects, although the existing conservatory structure should still be professionally assessed before installation.

Can spotlights be fitted into a solid conservatory roof?

Yes. The insulated internal pelmet and plastered ceiling provide opportunities to incorporate lighting such as downlights as part of the room design. Other electrical features can also be considered during the design stage.

Is Livinroof suitable for an extension as well as a conservatory?

Yes. Livinroof can be used for new conservatories, replacement conservatory roofs and suitable extension projects. Its combination of insulation, a plastered interior and configurable glazing makes it particularly useful where you want an extension-like room without sacrificing natural light.

How long does a solid conservatory roof take to install?

For a typical replacement roof project, we aim to have your new solid conservatory roof installed and watertight within around five working days. The time needed to fully complete the project will depend on its size, specification and any additional internal or finishing work required.

For both replacement roofs and complete new-build conservatories, you'll be allocated a dedicated SEHBAC Project Manager to oversee the work from start to finish. We'll also provide you with a schedule of works, so you know what to expect and when, which our teams will always strive to keep to.

For a complete new-build conservatory, most projects are completed within around a month, although more complex designs, planning requirements and unforeseen site conditions can affect the overall timescale.

Can a solid roof be fitted to any existing conservatory?

Not automatically. Before replacing a conservatory roof, the existing frames, structure and foundations may need to be assessed to establish whether they are suitable for the proposed work. SEHBAC carries out a survey before confirming the final specification.

Is the Ultraframe Livinroof fire tested?

Yes. The complete Livinroof solid roof system has been independently fire tested as an assembled structure. The exact specification and applicable Building Regulations requirements will be considered as part of your project.

What colours are available for Livinroof?

The external Livinroof U-Tec panels have a contemporary RAL7016 Urban Grey Matt finish, while additional roofline and cornice options can help the roof complement the conservatory and your property. Your SEHBAC designer can take you through the colours and finishing options available for your chosen design.

How much does a solid conservatory roof cost?

The cost depends on the size and shape of your conservatory, the amount and position of glazing, the chosen specification and whether the roof forms part of a new conservatory or replaces an existing one. The best way to establish an accurate price is to arrange a free, no-obligation quotation based on your property and requirements.

Does my solid conservatory roof come with a guarantee?

Yes. Your new SEHBAC solid conservatory roof is covered by our comprehensive 10-year guarantee, giving you added peace of mind that your investment is protected long after the installation is complete.

Our guarantee covers qualifying products and installation in line with our full guarantee terms and conditions, so you can enjoy your new conservatory or replacement roof with confidence.

What solid panels are used in an Ultraframe Livinroof?

Our Ultraframe Livinroof is available with insulated U-tec solid panels as standard, with the option to upgrade to grey aluminium insulated panels for a more premium external finish.

The solid panels form part of Livinroof's highly insulated roofing system and can be combined with strategically positioned glass panels, allowing you to choose the balance of solid roof and natural light that's right for your room.

For a more contemporary, premium appearance, you can upgrade the solid sections to grey aluminium panels. Both options benefit from the Livinroof's high-performance insulated construction, with roof specifications capable of achieving U-values as low as 0.12 W/m²K depending on the chosen specification.

Your SEHBAC designer can show you the different panel options and help you choose the right combination of solid panels and energy-efficient glazing for your conservatory.

What areas do you cover for solid conservatory roofs?

SEHBAC installs Ultraframe Livinroof solid conservatory roofs and replacement roofs across the South East of England, including Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, North London and surrounding areas.
