Work Experience Week at SEH BAC | A Window into Fenestration Careers in the UK
Company News

This week at SEH BAC, we had the pleasure of welcoming two Year 10 students for their work experience placement. Over the course of several days, they were given a real insight into the broad scope of roles within the UK fenestration industry, both in the office and out in the field.
The students spent time across various departments at our Head Office, shadowing our administrators, accounts, customer service, and warranty teams. They saw how customer experience, product support, and business operations work together to keep our home improvement projects running smoothly.
But it wasn’t all desks and screens — they also accompanied our experienced project managers, Cliff, Kev and Gary, out on site. From conservatory and extension builds to window and door installations, they witnessed first-hand the craftsmanship, problem-solving, and professionalism that define what we do.
Their feedback? Eye-opening, fast-paced, and fun — and most importantly, it opened their minds to the wide range of career opportunities that exist within our industry.

The students spent time with our:
- 👩💼 Office-based teams — learning about administration, customer service, warranty coordination and accounts.
- 🔨 On-site teams — shadowing our experienced project managers, Cliff and Gary, across live installations of conservatories, extensions, windows and doors.
This hands-on exposure allowed them to understand the full customer journey—from initial enquiry through to final quality checks—while seeing just how rewarding a career in home improvements can be.
The Fenestration Industry Needs New Talent
The UK fenestration industry is full of exciting and varied career paths — and there’s never been a better time to explore them. With a growing shortage of skilled installers, technicians and project managers, we need to attract and train the next generation of talent.
Initiatives like the Skilled Pathways programme from the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) are helping companies like SEH BAC provide structured training and progression. Whether you’re interested in hands-on installation, customer service, surveying, design, project management, or technical support, there’s a fenestration career in the UK that suits.

Building Confidence and Skills
At SEH BAC, we believe strongly in opening the door to young people to explore the world of fenestration. This week’s placements gave our students a first-hand look at the diversity and potential of careers in our industry.
We hope it inspires them, and others, to consider a future in fenestration. After all, the industry is only as strong as the next generation we help build.
A Bright Future for the Industry
With energy efficiency, security and sustainability becoming more important to homeowners, the demand for high-quality fenestration products and skilled professionals is only going to increase.
There’s never been a better time to start a career in the trade.
